Thorntons diversified into the "Bus Refurbishment World"
after previously being involved in Truck Refurbishment and
manufacture of Recovery Vehicles. Thorntons based in the
North of England have emerged as a leading player in the
"Bus Refurbishment Market".
Thorntons were invited to
tender for some livery change on PSV vehicles by Go Ahead
North East who where at the time developing "Route Branding" for their fleets in an attempt to gain more
customer recognition. Thorntons won the business and form
that point onwards they have successfully completed a large
number of livery changes as well as undertaking full and
partial refurbishment for the Go Ahead Northeast.
Thorntons were asked by First Group to tender for a batch
of buses that were in First Groups plan to be cascaded out of
London and up to Glasgow. They were changed by Thorntons
from the metropolitan spec to the municipal spec which was
highly successful. This was the first opportunity for
Thornton's to use the newly acquired specialised low-load
trailers and tractor-units which lead Thorntons to become a
Arriva were the next large commercial operator to invite
Thorntons to carry out refurbishment works. Since then
Thorntons have completed scores of Standard Bus Refurbish and
also many Arriva Sapphires and Max conversions.
Thorntons specialize in
the installation of WI-FI and
USB charging points
More recently Thorntons have carried out TFL Bus
Refurbishment for Arriva, Abellio and London United with
Many Ongoing TFL projects.
Thorntons now only specialize in Bus Refurbishment and
they have "A One Stop Shop" with best facilities
on purpose built 5 acre site including a State of the Art
Body Shop, 3 of the largest paint ovens in Europe which can
accommodate the largest of articulated buses, shot blasting
facilities and large capability for customer bus storage.
Thorntons operate a
nationwide Bus Transportation Facility enabling
the collection and delivery of Customer Vehicles on
Thorntons own Low Loaders and Tractor Units.
